Personal Interests

When she is not in her office, Marijke likes to spend time outdoors. She likes hiking and enjoys gardening. She is also a beekeeper. Music plays an important role in her life and she sings in a choir.

Biography

Marijke Durieux is a licensed acute care nurse practitioner who is interested in improving health through lifestyle modifications, especially for diabetes management. She explores with patients ways to improve nutrition and to integrate physical activity in their busy schedules. Together with the patient, she develops a personalized plan to achieve lifestyle goals.

She is skilled in providing palliative care and discussion of end of life care goals and planning with patients and their families.

She spends half of her time at a rehabilitation center/nursing home and the other half in the office clinic.

Marijke is from the Netherlands where she completed a diploma nursing degree before moving to the United States. She completed a masters degree in nursing at the University of Virginia.
